We left the Grand Canyon much later than we had planned because of the opportunity we had to get in to see what we had hoped to see there. So we arrived in Sedona around dusk on Saturday evening. Even in the dim light we could get a sense of the wonders that we would see on Sunday. Sunday morning we spent the morning traveling to different locations to see the beautiful striated rock. The sense I got was that I was at the bottom of an ocean and could view the mountains and rock formations that the water created. In fact that is what this area was. It was explained that after years of water coming and going and the sand being exposed, it finally became sandstone. The colors are caused by weather conditions. When rain seeped into the rock it carried iron and turned the rock shades of red and pink.
I was able to spend some time in the chapel of the Church of the Holy Cross. I have to say that I felt a real connection with God. I didn't take a picture inside, but the view was spectacular. If you could look at all of this beauty and not feel God's presence then you never would.
