On Tuesday, we decided that we were not going to drive around the city and instead selected a hop-on-hop-off tour of the city. We walked a mere seven city blocks (but you forget that the city is known for its steep hills.) It wasn't tooo bad and we made it to the science museum where we were to catch the bus. While waiting we took pictures of the beautiful park where there were Japanese gardens, and many museums.
Our bus arrived and our first stop was the Golden Gate Bridge. We decided to walk the bridge. I took many pictures of the city hoping to get the perfect vista, but there was fog and it never really lifted. I also took repeated pictures of the Bay Bridge, Angel Island, and Alcatraz. The walk took around 60 minutes. There were many people walking and biking. There were times when we thought we would be hit by a biker, but we made it safely over to the other side.
Angel Island is the Elllis Island of the West Coast. Many immigrants from Asia entered the U.S. after being confined on Angel Island.
The Methodist church where many of the homeless in the city receive food and support.
One of the hearts on display in the center of the city. A heart painted by Tony Bennet is on display, but I didn't get a picture of that one.
This Victorian style is the rarest and only a few remain. If you note aroung the round windows are gargoyles on both sides. During the 60's when the Hippies took over the city, these were very popular among this group of people. They were frequently ripped off of the buildings and used as decorations in apartments, stores and popular hangouts.
