Here is my first view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Little did I know that I would spend a lot more time on this bridge the next day.
Our motel was right in the city. The neighborhood reflected the unique architecture and style of the buildings in San Francisco.
After we checked in we went to eat at Mel's Drive-in. It was really a dinner, but had been around for more than 60 years and was decorated in the 50's style. We then decided to try and find something of interest to see. Viv drove and Dick navigated. We had very little luck, because finding parking in the city is close to impossible. We finally found an area of interest and took these pictures.
This was a memorial for veterans where there was a display of impressionist paintings. However, it was closed on Monday. So I took pictures of a very moving Holocaust memorial. After this began the pursuit of the perfect pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge and views of the city. I probably have 70 or more shots and lucky for you I won't include them in this blog or expose any other person to all of them.
Then we stumbled upon Crissy Army Airfield. It was one of the first Army airfields and was reclaimed as open space and a National Park (all tours and buildings were not open to us.) The city is so cramped that open space is at a premium and as a result this area is cherished by the citizens. They also restored marshlands that had orginally been there.
As we were driving around looking for things we went through a neighborhood on Presidio Drive. I fell in love with the homes. It almost made me wish I were rich enough to live in one. Viv was willing to drive back there and let me have five minutes.
