The Grand Tetons

I have to say that I was awed by the beauty, size and magnificence of the Tetons.  We learned that they are not a part of the Rockies and were formed differently.  The Rockies are a result of two plates bumping and pushing up the land on top of them.  The Tetons were produced through a combination of factors.  First a tectonic plate began to uplift the ocean and formed highlands.  Then vocanic eruptions from Yellowstone, added more elevation and features.  Finally, epochs alternated from glacial conditions to ocean conditions. They are the youngest mountain ranges in North America and yet are composed of some of the oldest rock. We took a lovely boat ride on Jenny Lake named after the Native American wife of an early explorer.  The young man who conducted our tour was very knowlegable and loved the area.  He helped us to see wildlife and understand a great deal about the area.  The white area there is a glacier.
